Cornwall Counselling Hub: Louise Elphick
My name is Louise and I’m a Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Newquay and Truro.
I worked for over 10 years in Education, firstly in Pupil Referral Units with students with social and emotional difficulties, followed by a college for young adults with visual impairments and complex needs. During this time I saw the benefits of talking about problems, sharing life stories and feeling heard. It motivated me to begin training as a counsellor and I now feel privileged to be supporting people through difficult times.
I understand finding the courage to contact and discuss what’s worrying you with a counsellor, can be a hard thing to do. I want to reassure you that whatever you bring to counselling, I will treat you with warmth, respect and without judgment.
I appreciate there may times in life when you may be ‘not OK’. You might be feeling frustrated, angry, emotionally drained or that your life is out of your control. Maybe you’ve wondered ‘how did I end up here’? or ‘what’s the point’?
Whatever is going on, being able to talk through your concerns with professional guidance and support can make a real difference. My role is to support you in exploring your feelings, emotions and behaviours and to help you find your own route through the difficulties you are experiencing.
I believe sharing your worries or concerns helps bring clarity and this is the first step to making things more manageable. I won’t offer you advice or easy answers, rather I will listen very carefully, without judgement, and help you make better sense of your experiences and how best to manage them and move forward.
Having trained in Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy, I now work as an Integrated Therapist. This simply means, I am able to use a mixture of different counselling approaches to suit your individual needs.
I have worked for many years with children and adults with anxiety, depression and low self esteem.
I am currently able to offer counselling sessions either over the phone or through video, such as Zoom.
